THE CITY OF YORK
With millions of visitors travelling to the city every year, York has something to offer everyone. There is a wide variety of wedding venues that capture the atmosphere and history of the city . The city centre is packed with shops, bars and restaurants along it's narrow street creating a vibrant feel.
If you are not familiar with York then we advise spending some time looking around the various venues within the city centre and beyond. It is certainly worth travelling outside of the city into the surrounding villages. For example, Sandburn Hall near Strensall is in a quiet country setting in contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city itself.
The York City Council website has a list of approved civil wedding venues in York
so you can see which venues are licenced to hold ceremonies. This is an excellent starting point for your search.
We have listed below some of our favourite wedding venues in York and the surrounding areas.
Situated around 14 miles from York centre, Sandburn Hall is set amongst lakes and woodland in Flaxton.
The centrepiece for weddings at Sandburn Hall is the oak framed grand hall. Whilst still retaining a modern feel, it overlooks the golf course and lakes making it extra special
Couples holding their wedding at Sanburn Hall are invited to Tykes restaurant to have a food tasting session with the head chef.
The Grand Function Hall accommodates between 80 to 150 guests for civil ceremonies and up to 200 guests for the evening reception. For a wedding that is more intimate, the Sanderson Room caters for 30 to 60 guests for a wedding breakfast and up to 80 guests for the evening.
The Parsonage Hotel & Spa
The Parsonage Hotel is set amongst six acres of gardens and woodlands in Escrick, around six miles from York.
The hotel was built in the early 1840s and has kept many of its original features. There are two restaurants within the Parsonage Hotel & Spa itself.
Weddings are held in the Crystal Suite with full use of the conservatory too. The excellent landscaped gardens serve as an excellent backdrop for wedding photos of which couples have full use. The hotel is licenced for up to 100 guests for ceremonies. For evening receptions the hotel can accomodate twice that number.
York racecourse on the outskirts of the city has been the site of horse racing in York since 1730. Looking out onto the racecourse, the grounds provide a fantastic backdrop for weddings.
York Racecourse can accommodate up to 500 guests but smaller rooms are available for more initiate weddings. The photo opportunities at a location like this are wide ranging and guests will be struck by the atmosphere of the racecourse and stands.
